Simvastatin tablets are used for the treatment of the following conditions:

• Hypercholesterolemia (elevated cholesterol levels in the blood): to lower LDL cholesterol and especially to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack and stroke.
• Hypertriglyceridemia (elevated triglyceride levels in the blood): to lower triglyceride levels, especially when accompanied by elevated LDL cholesterol levels.
• Familial hypercholesterolemia: to lower LDL cholesterol in patients with a genetic predisposition to high cholesterol levels.

Simvastatin tablets should not be used in:

• Hypersensitivity to simvastatin or any of the other ingredients of the medication.
• Pregnancy and lactation: Simvastatin may harm the unborn child and should not be used during pregnancy.

Each simvastatin tablet contains 10 mg of simvastatin as the active ingredient.

 

• The dosage of simvastatin tablets is based on the individual needs of the patient and should be prescribed by a doctor.
• The usual starting dose is 10-20 mg once daily, depending on the need and tolerability.
• It is typically taken in the evening before bedtime, as cholesterol synthesis in the liver is most active at night.

Common side effects of simvastatin include:

• Muscle pain or weakness
• Headache
• Gastrointestinal complaints such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
• Elevated liver enzyme levels
• Sleep disturbances

 

• Liver function should be monitored regularly during simvastatin treatment, as it may cause an increase in liver enzyme levels.
• Simvastatin may affect muscle function and, in rare cases, lead to severe muscle disorders, especially at higher doses or in combination with certain other medications.
• Concurrent intake of grapefruit juice should be avoided, as it may enhance the effects of simvastatin.

Simvastatin tablets should be stored at room temperature (15-25°C) in the original packaging to protect them from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
