If necessary, the dose can be increased for adults up to 16 mg 4 times / day, for children - up to 16 mg 2 times / day.

In the form of inhalation for adults - 8 mg, children over 10 years old - 4 mg, at the age of 6-10 years - 2 mg. At the age of 6 years - used in doses up to 2 mg. Inhalations are carried out 2 times / day.

The therapeutic effect may appear on the 4th-6th day of treatment.

Parenteral administration is recommended for treatment in severe cases, as well as in the postoperative period to prevent the accumulation of thick mucus in the bronchi. Enter 2 mg sc, intramuscularly or intravenously 2-3 times / day, slowly for 2-3 minutes.

Hypersensitivity to bromhexine and / or to any component of the drug, including lactose and sucrose,

peptic ulcer of the stomach or duodenum, since bromhexine can affect the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal barrier,

simultaneous use with cough suppressants that inhibit the cough reflex (for example, with codeine), especially at bedtime. This combined use of drugs slows down expectoration, pregnancy and lactation,

children under 6 years of age.

Symptoms

Dangerous cases of overdose with bromhexine are still not known.

Previously published data on 4 out of 25 cases of excessive use of bromhexine, accompanied by vomiting, as well as in 3 young children, blurred consciousness, ataxia, diplopia, mild metabolic acidosis and tachypnea. No symptoms were observed in infants after taking up to 40 mg of bromhexine.

No chronic toxicity potential has been reported in humans.

Overdose treatment: symptomatic. Due to the low toxicity of bromhexine, invasive measures to reduce absorption or accelerate excretion can be dispensed with. In addition, due to pharmacokinetic characteristics (large volume of distribution, slow processes of redistribution and high binding to protein), dialysis or forced diuresis also do not have a significant effect on drug elimination.

In children aged 2 years and older, when taking large amounts of bromhexine, mild symptoms were observed, so symptomatic treatment can be dispensed with by swallowing up to 80 mg of bromhexine hydrochloride; in children under 2 years of age, the corresponding determining dose is 60 mg bromhexine (6 mg / kg body weight).
